Abstract

Northern Mongolia has yielded a number of important Upper Paleolithic sites; most of them are concentrated in the Middle Selenga. In 2018, an excavation team of the Russian-Mongolian Archaeological Expedition surveyed the Middle and Upper Kharganyn-Gol River, a tributary of the Middle Selenga River, Northern Mongolia. Four Paleolithic sites were studied. The site of Kharganyn-Gol-13 yielded an impressive initial Upper Paleolithic complex. Assemblages from other established sites have been correlated to the subsequent stage, i.e. the early Upper Paleolithic.
