Abstract

Various symbols and signs helped first Russian settlers in Siberia to orientate in the surrounding world. The archival sources of the 17th century make it possible to identify and interpret this cultural and historical text. There were several groups of such symbols. Some were marks of distinction in service, which included assigned allowance from the Tsar and various bonuses for carrying out various assignments. The signs of successful and happy life of the servicemen were the conditions of their everyday and economic life, such as the quality of housing and extraneous activities in agriculture, craftsmanship, and trade.
