Abstract

The site of Obishir-1 was discovered in 1965, and was studied in three field seasons by the archaeological team headed by U. Islamov. The team excavated the area of 130 m2 and identified from 2 to 5 stratigraphic layers in different parts of the excavation. Islamov concluded that the archaeological materials of the site ocurred in situ and interpreted the site as as a Mesolithic workshop. Currently, the stratigraphic sequence and origins of the deposits at the site have been reconsidered, and three episodes of colluvial deposition have been identified. The collection of lithic artefacts obtained shows parallels with the dated assemblages from the Central Tian Shan-Pamir region (ca. 13.8-7 ka BP).
