Results of Archaeological Research at the Ust-Mana Settlement in 2018 (Under the Project of Krasnoyarsk Archaeological Heritage Sites Cataloging)

Abstract

In the field season of 2018, the Krasnoyarsk archaeological team of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS conducted certification of Ust-Mana archaeological site. The Ust-Mana site is located on 12 m high terrace of the Mana River near Ust-Mana village (Krasnoyarsk region). Site was found in 1880. Excavations were conducted in 1980, 1982, 1993 and 1995. During the field works of 2018, 10 testing pits were made revealing 4 cultural layers. Layer 1 yielded fragments of pottery, stone points, a scraper, a sinker with a through hole, knives on flakes, blades and flakes dated to the Late Neolithic period - Bronze Age. Layer 2 contained amorphous cores and preforms, an abrasive tool, lamellar flakes and was dated of the Mesolithic period. A biface, flakes of decortication, thick flakes and large animal bones were found in Layer 3, which was dated of the Late Paleolithic period. Layer 4 revealed three large animal bones and was dated to the Paleolithic period.
