Abstract

Documented evidence of micropercussion technique in the Early Upper Paleolithic (EUP) has been found at the multilayered sites of the Gobi Altai (Tsagaan-Agui Cave, Chikhen-Agui Rock Shelter, and Chikhen-2 Site). In Tsagaan-Agui Cave, elongated cores with the negative scars of microblade removals were found among the materials of the third sedimentation cycle. A sub-prismatic microcore for producing microblades and 24 microblades were found in the collection of the EUP from Chikhen-Agui Rock Shelter. The EUP horizons at the multilayered open site of Chikhen-2 contained microcores and a microblade. A similar situation may be observed for the industries of the EUP at the sites of Northern Mongolia.
