Abstract

The problem of appearance and distribution of various methods for procuring fire and special fire-extraction devices in Siberia has not been sufficiently well studied. Two stone artifacts from the Neolithic settlement near the village of Konstantinovka in the Amur Region were found near the hearth. Small depressions were located in the central part of their broad sides. Based on the experimental use-wear analysis of deformation traces on the surface of the stone artifacts, it can be concluded that these objects were used as “upper” clamping “weights” of the bow drill. The configuration of depressions formed on the surface of the artifacts make it possible to argue about their repeated and sufficiently effective use.
